Accelerated Reader

In order to promote reading, our K-6 students are encouraged to participate in the Accelerated Reader program.   Students read books and then take computerized tests to check for comprehension.  They earn points for each test that they pass.  Students use these points to purchase items from our Accelerated Reader Store at the end of the school year.  All K-1 students who earn a minimum of 50 points and 2-6 grade students who earn at least 100+ points by the A.R. deadline (usually by April)  will be allowed to participate in the end of the year Accelerated Reader Field Trip.  Previous trips included the McWane Science Center in Birmingham and Desoto Caverns.  Remember, your child has most of the year to work toward this goal.  You can help your child earn these points by helping them to set a personal goal of how many books they need to read and how many points they need to earn each week / month in order to reach the 100/50 point goal.

We also honor students for points earned throughout the year on our school's Readers Wall of Fame located by Mrs. Willoughby's computer lab.  Once students earn 5 points, Mrs. Willoughby adds their picture on the wall.  We continue to track the number of points our students earn by moving their picture to the next level of points earned (10, 20, 30, etc.).
